Splintered Hearts is written by women who bare their souls and lives with heart-breaking honesty to help others. This is a book for those hurting and recovering from betrayal by a partner whatever the circumstances. There’s more than one way to betray someone you have professed your love. The women in this hope-filled book write about their journeys and vulnerability and share how they moved from a state of shock to state of renewal.
Being vulnerable about life's hurts isn't an easy thing to do. The people who compiled this book and the stories of hurt and desperation are so brave and I'm thankful for their testimonies. Often times, we don't want to forgive when we've been wronged and the world says we shouldn't have to. I love the stories told in this book because they've turned their "messes" into "Messages". Only by the grace of God are we truly able to overcome such things in life. The world needs stories like this of redemption in relationships to remind of of the greatest redemption story of all, which is Christ dying for our sins. I know it will help so many.
Reading through these stories was very difficult for me, as some of them (especially the chapter "Mess to Message" by Dorene Davis) so closely parallel what I experienced. It is difficult to understand what and why the chaos is occurring when you are in the eye of the storm, but if you can survive it, and even find the positive aspects of the experience, I believe that you can recognize the tender touch of God. To paraphrase Exodus 3323, we may see the back of God, but not His face.
It is easy to have faith in God when things are going well, in one's career, in one's financial life, in one's marriage, but so much more difficult when the career, stock market, marriage are heading south. Yet I think that it is at these times of the dark night of the soul that God allows us to let go of the artificial things around us that normally keep us moored, in order to reach out in the shadows to grasp His hand, knowing that it is the only thing that will keep us afloat. Belief and faith give birth to trust, strengthening our relationship with God as well as the ones we love, regardless of how much they have violated us.
This book is wonderfully written, and will serve as a guide not only for those who are in the throes of infidelity, but also for those who have come through, strengthened and renewed, on the other side. Nearly 40% of married people admit to infidelity during their marriage, and it is thought that this number is grossly underestimated. I hope that this book will serve as a bridge to entering the next phase of life for those people who are experiencing the devastation, intense emotions and recurrent crises that result from infidelity.
